Hello everybody,
I haven't been adding much news lately, so it was time for a new journal entry with major news.
As most of you know i'm working as a tour leader in Thailand. I've been doing this for almost 9 months. I'm busy with my very last tour now. Months ago i had some options to choose from for my next destination:
- China (9 months)
- Vietnam (9 months)
- Indonesia (4 months) + Thailand (5 months)
- Borneo (6 months) + Thailand (3 months)
As i've seen Thailand i chose Vietnam as first option and China as second. My choice for Vietnam was mainly a language issue. As the country has some history with colonization, the population is more open to study foreign languages. When you live somewhere for 9 months it's always nice to communicate with locals in languages you know. Sadly, with the 5 languages i speak, of which 4 fluently, it wasn't really possible to have conversations with Thai people. I learnt Thai, but there's a big difference in being able to say basic things and know enough to converse. Let's say that the 5 different tone ladders for every vowel made it quite difficult. Now, China would be the same, or an even worse story, so i chose for the beautiful nature destination of Vietnam. Last week i got a phonecall from Belgium asking if i were still interested in working there, and they proposed me the contract i was hoping for. I'm very happy about this!
The 31st of january i finish my last tour. I'll be heading to Cambodia for 5 days from the 2nd to 6th february, visiting the capital Phnom Penh and one of the new 7 world wonders, Angkor. After that i'm flying back to Bangkok and stay there for some days before flying to Phuket (never ever wanted to put one feet in this overcommercialized island, but i got to take my flight from there). There i'll be seeing what i despise most in tourism, though trying to catch a nice sunset. The 13th of february i'll fly directly from Phuket to Brussels. Then, by the end of march leaving my country again and heading for Vietnam till december 2009. I'm very excited to study about the country that will be my home for 9 months. Though, in some tours we'll have 3 days in Cambodia as well, so it'll be nice to alter the countries every now and then.
So, you know a bit more about my future life, hope it wasn't too boring!

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were;I have not seen
As others saw;I could not bring
My passions from a common spring
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone.
