Quito is the capital of Ecuador and counts about 3 million inhabitants at an average height of 2850m above sea level. It was the first historical center, together with Krakow, to be named Unesco world heritage in 1978. Sometimes it is dubbed the most beautiful capital of South America. The city is located in different valleys and is also endangered by a number of volcanoes. The closest and most dangerous is the Pichincha, located west of Quito.
As there are numerous hills and mountains around the city, it is a magic experience to go up, enjoy the sunset and see the city light up. This photograph was made at a height of 4100m above sea level. Enjoy!
