Description
Choeung Ek is for many people a symbol for the killing fields in Cambodia. It is a former Chinese graveyard, 17km from Phnom Penh and was used by the Khmer Rouge as a mass grave between 1975 and 1979. In total, about 2,1 million Cambodians died in those 4 years of horror. This is the place to remember them... After the fall of the regime, 8895 bodies have been discovered, most of them executed in the Tuol Sleng prison. Nowadays a part of the bones have been lay to rest in a stupa, built in 1988. Not all the graves have been excavated, and so it will remain. It is said that when heavy rains fall, bones still come up at the surface.

A very nice photo but haunting too, every one of these skulls is a life cut short.
