Dumb question, but what's inside the building on the dock? Ours here in the USA do not look like this at all!

It's a little sea museum and a cafetaria :) But it's been 15 years since i've been inside, it has certainly been modernized :) The one in Oostende is with a cafetaria too... If it's big enough, there's a bar here :)

What a great idea!
Can't do those here on the East Coast of the USA - hurricane would take it away!

Yes but... I think hurricanes only strike to a certain height on the east coast... from NY to Boston, i'm sure it wouldn't be a prob and that some exist, don't they?

Hurricanes hit from Texas all the way up past Virginia!!! And NC juts out so invitinginly, we get many!

Yes, but still... We may not have hurricanes, the north sea's well known for the strong winds... And when big storms strike... You should see how the piers are attacked :) I have a nice picture of it... i'll add it to photobuket to show you...

I was on a breakwater there... and at the there was a wave of 30-40 cm high that went over it... I was completely wet. Luckely it didn't drag me to the sea :) That was the evening after the big storm, but there was still some animation there. Anyway, if the see level rises too much and nothing can be done against it, Belgium and Netherlands will lose 50 to 60% of their territory (Netherlands has like 40 to 50% of territory below sea level, and here, it's almost completely flat till Brussels...). I'll have to move one day i guess :) Every year we drag sea from the sea to the beach to create a bigger artificial beach... It helps, but the dike is almost as high as the beach now... So one day they'll have to make it higher i guess. Hmmm :(

One of the many reasons voting for republicans means voting for the end of the world on long term... (The Kyoto project which they are against, and now the new project of Bali as well... So continue to vote so you can pollute in peace. By this i don't say you are responsable for it all, but by showing the good example, other big polluters would follow. And isn't is the role of the country that wants to "save the world" to really do it? Or is saving the world and democracy only good when oil reserves are involved?) Don't take this bad, but that's just the way it is... All for the money and power, no ethics.

Amazing photos! Yes, NC beaches keep receeding and then reappearing with the next hurricane. People just keep building houses on the sand! Dumb!

And I wish there weren't political parties, that a candidate could just stand on what they believe. "Save the world from global warming" has become such an agenda here for the Democrats, but they really have idea how to do it, either. As usual, will be voting for the lesser of the evils ...

BTW - I have a friend who always says "If you're not liberal when you're young, you have no heart, but if you're not conservative when you're older, you have no brain." Always thought that was funny. And the older I become, the more I realize it's true...

Well, the pictures weren't that good :( those were taken at iso 1600 i think so... the quality is just good enough to show, and the composition was bad because of the wind...

I don't think global warming is the problem itself... but starting a new way of taxation... rewarding the less polluting cars and high taxes on 4x4's would be a good thing to start with in the USA. And not only on cars, but also on houses... help funds for people to isolate their houses better and solar panels... Little things to put the people into action. A government can just take measures to push people at being more eco-friendly. At the end the people must do it, the measures are only the way to achieve the goals. Of course we can't stop global warming, but living more 'eco' is a good way to start. Funds for the people and taxation of pollutors is already a good start...So pollutors are forced to make investments in new technologies and filters...

I might agree with your last sentence... It remembers me the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa... He had quite socialist, even communist ideas back in the 70ies... Now he's a liberal. Well, we don't talk about liberals here as you do. Here liberals are openminded and supporting the owners of shops and firms, and are into capitalism. So he changed radically... and it's sad.

Here those are the main parties:
-Socialists: supporting the workers and want more equality between rich and poor (solidarity)
-Liberals: supporting the self employed and owners of firms, and are more into unequality (people have to work and invest to get something back)
-Christian democrats: difficult to put, but they're a center party, slightly more conservative, but more socialist in policies
-The greens: more left than socialists, more into solidarity and of course ecological matters
-The extremists (mostly here in flanders): wanting the separation of belgium, supporting immigration stops and all the things i'm against

For me it's sad that the USA have only two parties or at least two big ones... it's not fair to say black ir white, there are so many other possibilities. And also, i can't understand why religion is so important there... at least more for republicans. Brrr... i get crazy when i imagine that politics and religion are entertwined. Just like all islam states... except Turkey. For that you could say that Turkey's more evoluted. Even though it's all due to one man that laicity got introduced. I better stop thinking now and go out :) I sold my first picture yesterday... And i'm working on my cv to send to Australia... When it's finished i'd like to send it to you, to see if it'd be good enough for the US.

And before i go: Cheers Obama! :D
